Back to school & back to basics

It’s hard to believe, but today is my son’s first day of 2nd grade!

Where does the time go?!

Back to school season always feels like a fresh start for me—even more than January. After the hustle and bustle of summer, it feels nice to get back to a routine and slow down a little.

Lately I’ve been thinking about how to apply that same concept and feeling to marketing our businesses.

So if you are feeling overwhelmed and like you are doing everything and nothing at the same time, then this is for you. Keep scrolling for 9 ways to get back to basics.

9 Ways To Get Back To Basics When It Comes To Marketing Your Business

1. Hone in on who your customer is

Knowing who you’re talking to makes creating for and connecting with them so much easier.

2. Get clear on what you offer

You don’t have to be everything to everyone and you don’t have to do everything. And—really—you shouldn’t.

We all know the phrase “jack of all trades, master of none”. What are you the master of? What do you want to be know for? Go all in on that.

3. Look at where you started

Head to your Stories archive and look at some of your first Stories. Scroll back to your first feed posts. Be proud of how far you’ve come.

4. Remember why you started

Remind yourself WHY you do what you do. WHY you started. Look back at emails from happy clients.

5. How are you connecting

Focus on HOW you are connecting with your audience. Share BTS on Stories. Ask questions. Creating connections on social media is the best way to build trust and ultimately sell on social media. It also makes it more fun and less lonely. For you and your audience.

6. Check your analytics

They’re a gold mine of information. Look at what content is getting the most engagement on feed and stories. Repurpose that content. Look at when your audience is most active on the app. Benchmark stats for engagement rate, reach and follower growth and set goals going forward.

7. Plan your content in advance

Choose a schedule you can consistently stick to, whether that is 2 posts a week or 5, it doesn’t matter as long as you KNOW you can stick to longterm.

8. Choose tactics wisely

Choose tactics strategically based on which ones will have the biggest impact on your business and ones you actually enjoy. You don’t have to do it all.

9. Create content you’d want to consume

Stop creating content with the algorithm in mind or with the sole intent of growing your following or heaven forbid “going viral”. Serve the followers you already have and create content they want to consume.

Bottom Line…

Take a deep breath and a step back. Breathe. Reset. Come back to basics and why you do what you do. You don’t have to do it all (and you really shouldn’t).

Remember…You don’t have to spend a lot of money. You can do it your way.
